Author, Journalist, Broadcaster, Publicity Consultant

Put simply, I’m an author and journalist-turned-media consultant. After 15 years of getting my own stories (and books) in the media, I now do for others as Director of Client Delivery at Right Angles PR, a personal PR and reputation management agency and helped set up Nine Media, which trains PRs on how to pitch to the press

My latest book, by the way, is This Girl Ran: Tales of a Party Girl Turned Triathlete – my story of ditching a glamorous, city lifestyle, toughening up through outdoor sport and becoming a GB triathlete.

But back to my background….I have 15 years experience in journalism, working across all media platforms – print, broadcast and digital. Seven of these were in staff roles in high pressure newsrooms at ITN. Eight of them have been freelance, which is when I get to do fun stuff like debate ‘dry January’ on breakfast telly, or write provocative opinion pieces.

HTLGI festival at Hay-on-Wye: Women in Conquest

Once it was men who counted sexual conquests as a sign of their prowess. Now in the age of Tinder a new generation of women are doing the same. Is this empowering and liberating? Or is it a wrong turn on the road to...

Corporate Media Training

I’m a founding partner of  Nine Media Training. We’re a small team of experts working in journalism, broadcasting and comms so we specialise in giving the inside track on how the media works to PR, media relations and comms teams. We run public training courses and bespoke in-house training.

We also deliver practical media training to senior spokespeople at businesses, charities and universities. Whether it’s preparing for a crisis or learning how to steer an interview to deliver the messages you want to convey we can help.

All our training is 100% bespoke for every client.

Private Coaching

I offer private writing coaching for aspiring authors of memoir and non-fiction. If you’d like to know more contact me for prices and programmes.

I’m in the process of starting up an online memoir writing course. If you’d like to register interest for when this is up and running, register here and I’ll keep you posted when it’s ready to go.

“A great course that allowed for personal exploration of writing style within a supportive, sharing context. Helen is knowledgable and professional, her delivery is engaging and the weekly notes provided structure for working outside of the course. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to write their memoir.”

Lisa AlaBaksh, writing student

“I really enjoyed the course – it was very helpful and motivating and I now have clear direction.”

Paquita Zulueta

I really loved the day course and I mean that. It really got through to me. Took me a while to recover. I always find that when you do something intense like that.

I was inspired to get back into work with an increased awareness.

Margaret Roberts, writing student

Speaking

The perk of being an author is that I am asked to deliver informative and inspirational talks and take part in debates.

I’ve done lots on the changing trends of modern relationships (because of my first two books!) – well who doesn’t love to ponder about love? More recently I’ve been giving inspirational talks about transcending from city girl to GB triathlete; and informative workshops on pitching stories to the press.

Credits include Institute of Arts and Ideas, Intelligence Squared, Stylist Live and the WI. If you’d like to get in touch about delivering a talk or chairing a debate, feel free to contact me.
